Acrylic tubs are made from a combination of plastic, fiberglass, and other materials. This makes them susceptible to the following:

- harsh cleaners (concentrated bleach or ammonia-based cleaners)

- harsh solvents (acetone, nail polish removers)

- abrasive cleaners (magic erasers or powders like Comet)

These are three of the most important things to be aware of. Concentrated bleach can make the acrylic finish more yellowish, ammonia cleaners can make the surface crack with time, and acetone/nail polish removers are the most dangerous - they can literally melt the tub layer. Abrasive cleaners work like sandpaper and can wear away the protective layer, creating little crevices that make the tub susceptible to dirt. The same applies to abrasive scrubbers like steel wool. Also, be careful if you have dogs, as washing them in the tub without a protective mat can damage the coating.
