What’s the difference between Toto Drake and Toto Drake II
2 min read
TOTO is undeniably one of the most famous and respected toilet brands. This Japanese-based brand is known for the outstanding quality, stunning design, and top-notch engineering. Today we will take into consideration the two TOTO models from the "Drake" line - TOTO Drake and its successor TOTO Drake II. These two toilets are top-tier models and have been deservedly popular on the market for a long time.
History
These two toilets are staples in the toilet industry. Original Drake toilets were developed in the early 2000s, and it was a success. Drake 2 was made around the 2010s. After that, popularity of Drake series was so high that in the 2020s TOTO re-released the first Drake series, and upgraded it. So now, Drake 1 (redesigned) is a newer line than Drake 2.
Let's talk about some of the features of both toilets:
TOTO Drake: Tornado Flush, CEFIONTECT glaze
TOTO Drake 2: Double Cyclone/Tornado Flush, CEFIONTECT glaze
Tornado Flush is a signature TOTO technology that combines flushing efficiency with everyday comfort. It is important to note that the new TOTO Drake models use an updated version of Tornado Flush.
Both models have options of different GPF (Gallons Per Flush) and toilet height (Regular/Universal height). New Drake models have a wider range of options for height and GPF.
The CEFIONTECT® ceramic glaze is another TOTO technology. This ultra-smooth glaze prevents particles from sticking, and makes cleaning easier and more effective.
Price
These are toilets in the same price category, but Drake 2 is an advanced version compared to the 1st Drake edition, so it's more expensive - the difference is about $150-$200. However, the new redesigned Drake is cheaper than Drake II - and you get updated functionality.
Prices also depend on GPF, height, and style of toilet.
The bottom line is that the difference between Drake and Drake 2 is in release date (Drake 1 is a newer model as it was redesigned), in price (Drake 2 is slightly more expensive) and in options (more options for new Drake). Also, it has updated Tornado Flush, which is another bonus.
Right now TOTO Drake 2 is a good toilet, but compared to newer models, it lacks support and improvements over the years. Its counterpart - the new Drake 1, was re-released and has quietly become the main line of Drake toilets, and probably the best TOTO two-piece toilet.
As a bonus, here's 2021 publication from TOTO website, dedicated to a new Drake. It can answer the questions you may have left:
