Where to hang a toilet roll holder?

1 min read

Finding the sweet spot for your toilet paper is crucial to achieve a harmonious look throughout the entire bathroom.

Placing

There are different options on where to place your TP holder. It depends on the positioning of your toilet, bathroom size, and preferences. Some of the usual spots are :

  • Side Wall - place the holder in front of the toilet bowl. This is the most common and useful option.
  • Behind the toilet - less useful as it's harder to reach but can be useful in a bathroom with limited space.

Simply put, it is best to hang the toilet paper roll on a wall adjacent to the toilet. That way it will be easy to reach with no discomfort.

Width

ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) says that 7 to 9 inches from the front of your toilet is sufficient.

Height

ADA recommends 19–26 inches from the floor. For the elderly it is advisable not to position the holder low to eliminate the need to bend.

This is general advice from experts and ADA requirements. You can take it as a recommendation and adapt for your needs.

Left vs Right

It's standard to install the TP holder on the right side of the toilet but it is possible to hang it on your left if there are many left-handed users in the household, or it is convenient for your bathroom's layout.

Additional tips

  • If a shower is nearby, make sure splashes won't reach your TP
  • Choose a freestanding holder if there is no possibility of wallmounting
  • Try to place the holder in the most convenient spot (not too low and not too high)
