Soaking tubs are perfect for elevated everyday bathroom comfort via full immersion. But how deep is a regular soaking tub?

The first dimension is the full depth - measured from the top edge of the tub to the lowest point. The usual full depth of a soaking tub is 20-24" deep, compared to 14-17" in standard bathtubs. Deep-soaking tubs can be even deeper, up to 30". Japanese-style soaking tubs, also available for seated bathing, can be even deeper, up to 34".

Another depth is the soaking depth. This is the "true" measurement - the height of the water at its maximum level, from the overflow hole at the top to the base of the tub. For a typical soaking tub, the soaking depth is about 14-15".

It’s important to measure the step-over height, which can be significant in deeper tubs. You can reduce the step-over height by installing the tub in a drop-in style on a platform.
