KOHLER Smart Toilets in Canada: Karing vs Veil, Prices and Installation Planning
A KOHLER smart toilet combines a toilet and electronic bidet functions in one fixture. Choosing one is as much an installation decision as a feature comparison: water supply, electrical service, finished-wall rough-in and usable seat height can eliminate an otherwise attractive option.
This Canadian buying guide focuses on two models listed at Bathroom Supplier: Karing K-77780-0 and Veil K-5401-PA. It also explains where they fit within the wider KOHLER range, what to budget and what to confirm before installation.

What makes a toilet “smart”?
Look for the complete model number and its specific feature list. A heated seat, automatic lid, bidet washing and automatic flushing are separate capabilities. A product family name or a sleek skirted exterior does not establish that all of them are included.
A bidet seat fitted to a compatible conventional toilet is another route. An integrated smart toilet makes sense when you want the coordinated fixture and are comfortable planning its utilities and future service. A separate seat may be worth considering when keeping an existing bowl is a priority. Compare the installed cost of both approaches rather than the seat price against the entire smart toilet.
The wider KOHLER smart-toilet range
KOHLER's official comparison chart includes Innate, Karing 2.0, Veil, Eir and Numi 2.0. They are separate families, not a simple sequence where each model includes every feature of the last. The chart distinguishes features such as cleansing functions, bowl preparation and connectivity; do not assume app or voice control is standard on all KOHLER smart toilets. Consult the exact Canadian model documentation. Official KOHLER intelligent-toilet comparison chart.

Why choose Karing?
Karing brings adjustable washing, a heated seat, drying, deodorization, night lighting and a motion-operated cover together with automatic flushing. Its specification also lists bowl pre-misting and UV/electrolyzed-water wand cleaning. It is worth shortlisting when those daily comfort functions matter more than a dual-flush choice. Karing technical reference.
Before choosing it, sit on a comparable-height fixture if possible. The largest screen or longest feature list will not compensate for an uncomfortable seat height or a remote location that is awkward to reach.
Why choose Veil?

Veil K-5401-PA combines adjustable bidet washing, heated seating, drying, deodorization, lighting and a hands-free cover with a compact projection and dual flushing. Its specification describes UV/electrolyzed-water wand cleaning and an emergency-flush system rated for up to 100 flushes during an outage. Follow the manual's emergency procedure; that does not mean electronic washing and heating continue without power. Veil technical reference.
The compact projection is useful to compare on a floor plan, but include the required clearances and circulation space. A shorter fixture alone does not establish that the completed bathroom will meet accessibility requirements.
How much do these KOHLER smart toilets cost in Canada?
These are Bathroom Supplier product prices checked November 5, 2026, in Canadian dollars before tax and installation. They are examples for the specified variants, not a price range for the entire KOHLER catalogue.
| Store product | Exact variant | Reviewed price |
|---|---|---|
| Karing smart toilet | K-77780-0 — White | $9,055.50 CAD |
| Veil smart toilet | K-5401-PA-0 — White | $10,950.00 CAD |
| Veil smart toilet | K-5401-PA-HB1 — Honed Black | $13,687.50 CAD |
Check the selected variant for the current price and availability. A listed price does not establish an installation date or immediate stock.
Budget for the installation, not just the fixture
Ask for an itemized quotation covering the toilet, delivery, removal of the old fixture, plumbing changes, electrical work, any finishing repairs and commissioning. A renovation that already has the correct utilities may be quite different from a room requiring a new circuit or moved supply.
Give the plumber and electrician the same exact model specification before they quote. Ask who will verify outlet and shutoff locations against the fixture outline. Utilities can fit behind one toilet yet interfere with another; “there is already an outlet nearby” is not a completed installation check.
Pre-installation checklist
- Measure from the finished wall. Confirm the drain rough-in after accounting for tile or other wall finishes. Do not measure from exposed studs and assume the final distance is the same.
- Draw the fixture footprint. Mark its projection, width, door swing and neighbouring cabinetry on the plan. Check remote access and lid movement.
- Confirm electrical service. Have a qualified electrician apply the model requirements and local rules. Avoid planning the installation around an extension cord.
- Assess the water supply. Have the plumber verify the relevant pressure and flow requirements at the installation, not simply quote the home's general water pressure.
- Plan isolation and service access. Know how the water and power will be shut off and how the fixture can be accessed for service.
- Inspect and commission. Check delivered components before installation and test the flush, wash, dryer, lid and user controls before finishing the handover.
Warranty and long-term ownership
Both reviewed specifications identify a three-year limited warranty category. Read the applicable full warranty for eligibility, exclusions and claim conditions before purchase. Do not confuse that term with a promise that every visit, installation expense or future replacement part is included.
Keep the model number, serial number, purchase invoice, installation date and manuals together. Before buying, ask how a service request would be handled in your area and how replacement electronic components are identified. For a household depending on one bathroom, include access to another toilet in the service plan.
Self-cleaning wand features support routine maintenance; the bowl and exterior still need care. Follow the model's cleaning instructions and avoid treating every household bathroom chemical as suitable for an electronic fixture.
Frequently asked questions
Is every KOHLER Veil toilet a smart toilet?
No. Verify the full model number. This guide covers the K-5401-PA integrated smart toilet; it should not be used as the specification for a different Veil bowl or wall-hung model.
Does Karing use less water than Veil?
Karing's listed flush is 1.08 gpf; Veil offers 0.8 and 1.28 gpf. Which uses less over time depends on how the dual-flush choices are used and whether repeat flushing is needed.
Will it work during a power outage?
Check the exact model's emergency-flush procedure. Veil's cited specification describes emergency flushing. Do not extend that promise to every KOHLER model or assume bidet functions operate without power.
Is a KOHLER smart toilet worth it?
It can be when you value integrated washing and daily comfort enough to support the purchase, utilities and future service. Start with fit and installation, then compare the functions you will actually use.
